Scholarships on neutron star physics

The Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center is opening a scholarship to work on neutron star physics and dissipation in general relativity. The scholarships are available to graduate students currently enrolled or accepted for the year 2019/2020 in a doctoral school in the fields of astrophysics, astronomy and physics.

The position is open for 3 years (however, no later than the end of the project duration), starting in January 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.

A competitive salary is being offered: 5000 PLN gross gross/month in the framework of the OPUS NCN Polish grant (no: 2019/33/B/ST9/00942 ), led by dr hab. Haskell

The successful candidate will work with dr hab Brynmor Haskell on the theoretical analysis of dissipation in neutron stars, in the general relativistic multifluid formalism. The aim of the project is to obtain a form that is suitable for numerical implementation in large scale simulations.

A Masters degree in Physics or a related discipline is required. The candidate must have a good knowledge of General Relativity, and experience in modelling neutron stars in relativity will be an advantage.

The student will join the neutron star group and will work in a vibrant and international environment of Polish Academy of Science Center for Astrophysics (Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center) in Warsaw, Poland.

We seek the best and the most independent students to take part in our ground-breaking project. The selection will be fully based on the quality of the application. All minorities are encouraged to apply.

Applicants should submit an application including:
- a CV;
- a scan of signed GDPD form - available from: https://www.camk.edu.pl/en/about/ochrona-danych-osobowych/#rodocent (NCN DGPD documents);
- a copy of the most important diploma (master, engineer, bachelor) - including the list of course grades;
- as well as information on research experience (participation in research projects, publications, awards, etc) and research interests;
- at least one recommendation letter.

The deadline for application is: 31 of December 2019.

The contest will be resolved in early January 2020.

Applications should be sent in the PDF format atrecruitment@camk.edu.pl

Additional information can be obtained from dr. hab. Brynmor Haskell (bhaskell@camk.edu.pl).

This competition is independent from the recruitment for the GeoPlanet Doctoral School at NCAC (https://www.camk.edu.pl/en/phd/).
