Postdoctoral Position in Stellar Astrophysics and Galactic Archaeology at NCAC, Poland

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center (NCAC), in Warsaw, Poland, in the fields of stellar astrophysics and Galactic archaeology. The successful applicant will work with Dr. Rodolfo Smiljanic on the project “A detailed view of the distinct halo stellar components with large spectroscopic surveys” funded by the Polish National Science Center. The work will include the analysis of medium- and high-resolution stellar spectra. Dr. Smiljanic is an active member of the Gaia-ESO Survey (www.gaia-eso.eu) and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to join the collaboration.

NCAC is the leading astrophysical institute in Poland, hosting about 50 staff researchers and 30 PhD students. NCAC scientists participate in many international projects, e.g., BRITE, Herschel, CTA, SALT, ATHENA.

The position is available for one year. The preferred starting date is April 2017, but is to some extent negotiable. The salary of the successful candidate will be comparable to that of Polish researchers at the same career stage. Candidates are expected to have a valid PhD degree in astronomy at the starting date, but obtained no earlier than 2011

Applications (in pdf format) should be sent to rsmiljanic@camk.edu.pl and must include a CV with list of publications, a copy of the PhD diploma or a binding statement of its date of completion, and a short statement of research achievements and plans (maximum 3 pages). In addition, two letters of recommendation should be arranged and sent directly by their authors to the same e-mail address. For full consideration, applications and letters should be received by October 31, 2016. The review of the applications will begin soon after this date and continue until the position is filled.
