PhD student positions in galactic dynamics

Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center in Warsaw, Poland, invites applications for two PhD student positions in the field of galactic dynamics. The successful applicants will work under the supervision of prof. Ewa Lokas on the Maestro project “Dynamics and morphology of interacting galaxies” funded by the Polish National Science Centre. Positions are available for four years and the students will be enrolled in the PhD program of the Copernicus Center during this period (see http://www.camk.edu.pl/en/phd/). In addition to a scholarship, the students will be provided with funds for travel and research equipment as well as inexpensive housing options. The preferred starting date is October 1st, 2014. Candidates are required to complete their MSc or equivalent degree in astronomy, physics or related field before the starting date. The applicants should provide a cv with personal data, description of research interests and a list of publications, a copy of the MSc diploma and thesis or supervisor’s statement concerning its status, a transcript of grades for courses taken during the MSc studies, a work plan for the first year and arrange for one letter of recommendation, preferably from the MSc thesis supervisor. The application deadline is March 28th, 2014 and the interviews will take place on April 10-11, 2014. Later applications may be considered until the positions are filled.
