Post-doctoral position in Astrophysics of Gravitational Waves

Applications are invited for one postdoctoral position at the Nicolaus Copernicus
Astronomical Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences (NCAC PAS), in Warsaw, Poland,
in the field of gravitational waves.

Successful applicant will work with Prof. Chris Belczynski and join young and dynamic group
on the project "Astrophysics of gravitational waves" founded by the National Science Center
(grant MAESTRO 10, nr 2018/30/A/ST9/00050).
The contract is for 3 years. The main goal of the work is to establish
the origin of LIGO/Virgo sources of gravitational waves. The evolution of massive
stars and the formation of black holes and neutron stars are of particular interest.
Expertise in detailed stellar and binary evolutionary calculations (e.g. MESA), or
population synthesis calculations, or neutron star/black hole formation will be very
useful for this position. Applicants are expected to be fluent in English, have good
publication record and have good knowledge of high energy physics, in particular in
context of compact objects. Successful applicant is expected to present and publish
her/his results at international conferences and in scientific journals.

Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center Polish Academy of Sciences is a leading
astronomical institute in Poland. It was established in 1978. The main subjects of
research include: stellar astrophysics, binary systems, circumstellar matter, dense
matter and neutron stars, black holes, accretion processes, structure and evolution
of active galaxies, cosmology, extrasolar planets. The institute is involved in a
number of international projects like H.E.S.S, CTA, Herschel, SALT, INTEGRAL, Fermi,
and LIGO-VIRGO.

Applications will be collected throughout entire 2021 year until suitable candidate
is found, not later than December 31st, 2021.
The winning candidate may start the job as soon as possible, but not later
