It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Jean-Pierre Lasota-Hirszowicz on October 31, 2024. A distinguished astrophysicist, his many years of research and teaching had a profound impact on the development of astrophysics in Poland and around the world. For many years, Professor Lasota-Hirszowicz served as a professor at the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, where he shared his knowledge with great dedication and inspired successive generations of researchers.

His scientific achievements covered a wide range of astrophysical studies, including research on black holes, X-ray binaries, and accretion theory. Professor Lasota-Hirszowicz authored numerous publications in prestigious scientific journals and actively participated in international research projects. His work received multiple awards, and he was also the author of popular science books that made complex astrophysical topics accessible to a broader audience.

We bid farewell to an exceptional scientist and colleague, who will remain forever in our memory and in the hearts of those who had the honor and pleasure of working with him.
