José Ortuño-Macías is a Ph.D. candidate at the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center (CAMK) in Warsaw.

The supervisor of his doctoral work is Prof. Krzysztof Nalewajko.

The topic of his Ph.D. regards kinetic Particle-In-Cell (PIC) simulations of particle acceleration mechanisms required for explaining the non-thermal emission observed from jets of active galactic nuclei. The results of his previous works are presented in the following papers: "Radiative kinetic simulations of steady-state relativistic magnetic reconnection" (DOI: 10.1093/mnras/staa1899) and "Kinetic simulations of current-driven instabilities in relativistically magnetized jets" (DOI: 10.3847/1538-4357/ac6acd)

Research interests:
  • mechanisms of particles acceleration in relativistic plasmas and particle-in-cell simulations.

Degrees and titles:
  • 2017: MS of Astrophysics, Autonomous University of Madrid (Spain),
  • 2016: BS of Physics, University of Granada (Spain).
