Dr. Masato Kimura is an experimental particle physicist at AstroCeNT - Particle Astrophysics Science and Technology Center at the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center (CAMK) in Warsaw, working as a Postdoctoral researcher in Group 4 (Ultrapure SiPMs and Associated Readout Electronics) at AstroCeNT. So far, his research has focused on direct detection of dark matter in the Universe.

Dr Kimura obtained his PhD degree at Waseda University (Tokyo, Japan) in 2021 on the Research Fellowships for Young Scientists of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. During this time, he worked on the measurement of liquid argon scintillation and ionization response to low-energy ionization particles toward the direct dark matter detection. He committed the measurement from the detector design, construction, and data-taking to data-analysis and published two papers (Phys.Rev.D100 032002 and Phys.Rev.D102 092008).

After he obtained his PhD, he continuously worked on liquid argon detector at Waseda University, but for the MeV-gamma-ray astronomy and indirect dark matter search with antimatter. He committed to build a liquid argon purity monitor with charge readout system.

With the experises he earned on the liquid argon detector, Dr. Kimura decided to work in the DarkSide collaboration, one of the front runners of direct dark matter search using liquid argon, and joined AstroCeNT in 2021. Currently, he is involved in both the past and future experiments - DarkSide-50, DarkSide-20k, and DarkSide-LowMass. These works include the search for dark matter with the existing data, understanding of the detector response to an extremely low energy deposition, building the analysis framework of the forthcoming experiments, and design and optimization of the future experiment. He also commits to build a liquid argon facility at AstroCeNT.
