My name is Barbara Mochejska. I am an assistant professor at
N. Copernicus Astronomical Center in Warsaw, Poland.
During years 1998-2002 I was a graduate student at the Warsaw University
Observatory (first year) and Copernicus Astronomical Center (last three years).
During that time I was a member of the
DIRECT project, aimed at deriving direct distances to two nearest
spiral galaxies, M31 and M33.
I obtained my Ph. D. on 24 May 2002 at the Copernicus Astronomical
Center, based on a dissertation entitled "Photometry and analysis of Cepheids in the M31 and M33
galaxies".
From 1 October 2002 to 30 September 2005 I was a Hubble Fellow. I spent the first two years of my
fellowship at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and the
third year at
Purdue University. During that time I was leading the
PISCES project, aimed
at searching for transiting planets in open clusters.
On 1 January 2006 I returned to Copernicus Astronomical Center. While I am still
working on PISCES, my
scientific interests are shifting towards brown dwarfs.
