Postdoctoral research position

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position at the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center (NCAC), the leading astronomical institute in Poland. The current research at NCAC focuses on both observational and theoretical studies of stars, stellar systems and circumstellar matter (photometry, spectroscopy, dynamics of stellar systems), search for extrasolar planets, physical processes around compact objects, structure of active galactic nuclei, cosmology.

 

We seek candidates specializing in:

  1. optical photometry and spectroscopy of stars, stellar systems and extragalactic objects,
  2. analysis and interpretation of X-ray and gamma-ray data.

 

Experience with instrumental techniques will be a definite advantage. PhD in astronomy or physics is required. Preference will be given to applicants with PhD received no earlier than in 2009. Candidates can apply before finishing their PhD, if the PhD defense is scheduled for no later than December 20th, 2012 (a letter from the supervisor stating the planned date of the defense must be submitted). A PhD diploma is required by the date of employment.

 

Successful candidates are expected to start their appointment no later than January 1st, 2013. The position is initially awarded for 2 years, with a possibility to extend it to 3rd year, depending on successful performance of the candidate and financing possibilities.
